Hello folks!
It has been a while but I did it! I gave belgiantrotter a new look not fully by myself sadly due to lack of time. I also switched back from Expression Engine to Wordpress. I’ll be adding new features as well. SO I’m not fully finished with the new site.

Anyways I hope visitors will like the new design. All feedback is welcome

Most impressive trip ever: Gorilla’s

Our visit to the Mountain gorilla in Rwanda in 2004 is still one of my top highlights of all the vacations I had! This was just amazing! You can read the entire trip here or just that particular day HERE

Tanzania Finished!

I’ve finally finished the Tanzania section! I still have to finish the posts of the Rwanda part of the trip but I’m happy of what the Tanzania part has become

Hey Look I’m in a movie!

At last I found a movie I was looking for!!! Before I continue, I should point out this movie was shot on location in Rwanda in the Summer of 2006. It was the last summer I was in Rwanda. My parents left at the end of that same year.
In that summer they needed extras for the movie. They needed people to play soldier, scared ex pats wanting to return to Europe at the break of the conflict.

So after having to wait a long time for this Canadian movie to be released, I finally saw it! and Yes I have spotted myself

The movie itself is called Shake hands with the devil. Its a movie about the same titled book of Romeo Dallaire.
Dallaire received his commission as the Force Commander of UNAMIR, the United Nations Assistance MIssion for Rwanda. Rwanda had just emerged from civil war between the extremist Hutu population and a small Tutsi rebel faction operating from neighbouring Uganda—with the signing of the Arusha Accords. In fact, UNAMIR’s goal was to assist in the implementation of the Arusha Accords. The Hutus worked through the Rwandan army and then-president of Rwanda, Juvénal Habyarimana, and the Tutsis through the rebel commander Paul Kagame, who is the president of Rwanda today. The conflict became a civil war when extremist Hutus began murdering Tutsis found inside Rwanda’s borders, as well as moderate Hutus who sympathized with the Tutsis. When Dallaire arrived in Rwanda, his mandate was to supervise the implementation of the Accords during a transitional period in which Tutsis were supposed to be given positions of power within the Hutu government.

He wrote his awful experiences about the failing of the West to prematurely stop the genocide! It’s not a happy movie. In the same genre you could also watch: Hotel Rwanda (most commonly known of all), Shooting dogs (I think one of the best) and Sometimes in April (most shocking one).
Shake hands with the devil was directed by Roger Spottiswoode known for James Bond’s Tomorrow Never Dies and also Air America (an old one).

I just wrote my first Expression Engine plugin because I need it in order to continue rearranging my website the way I want it.
The plugin retrieves all the blogs you have on your website. (webblogs can also be seen as website sections)
It will be better understandable when I finish the rearranging…

I’ve added a little tweak on the gallery section.
Preview of pictures now open in an ajax pop up. This adds a little cool effect on the page. I’ll be adding the code here if anyone wants this for EE.

Redesign

Thanks to the superb dynamics of my blog engine (Expression Engine) I’m able to achieve this. I can create different blogs that all serve like a kind of “module” inside the website. I therefore created one blog that will only serve as the “news” for the website. Then I’ve got my default blog where I’ll post all my entries. Each blog can also have custom fields I can create dynamically.
As an example I could create a field “Example”. I can then use the tag {example} inside the html code and it will display whatever I entered in “example” on the entry page.
Just take a look at the homepage of my engine’s blog. It uses the same engine throughout the whole site. It doesn’t really look like a blog, does it ?
I’m also creating a “travel” blog which I’m trying to integrate with the great Menalto Gallery.

Well,

It has been a while since I posted anything on my blog!
I’ve been busy as hell.
Anyway let me be the first to wish all of you a Merry Xmas and a happy New Year of course!

It’s been hectic.
Yesterday our client went LIVE with their new Dynamics AX platform. The project was huge! About 2 years of development and a enormous amount of Interfaces that connect to the AX system.
But we succeeded in delivering in time and went live yesterday.

Although the big test will be on Thursday went all the users are let loose on the system. For me that’s the real go-live.

Anyway on Friday I leave for my winter vacation: a week of snowboarding in the French Alps. Man! that will do me good!

Anyway it’s Xmas today, enjoy
